November 3rd SAT Prep

The next SAT is right around the corner - are you prepared?

We hope that you have found yourself a good 1-on-1 in-home private tutor to make sure that you succeed at the highest level possible. SAT classes are a thing of the past - in-home private tutoring is the wave of the future.

Imagine having that same expert teacher, same materials, curriculum, tools and tricks, but in a 1-on-1 setting - imagine how much he can truly help you succeed during your time with him. It also doesn't hurt that you get to learn how to master the SAT in the comfort of your own home.

Don't be fooled by these huge companies who are providing you with SAT teachers and curriculum - the curriculum is dated, the teachers are unprofessional, and there is no personal attention. Teaching an individual needs to be, well, individualized - that is what Tried & True Tutoring offers - at a fraction of the cost of our competitors.

We are a large company who operates like a small company - we keep costs low and achievement high - come visit www.triedandtruetutoring.com, give us a call, or talk to someone who has used our service before - we will help you reach all of your educational goals, guaranteed.

Happy Halloween! The Spooky Side of Tutoring

Happy Halloween everybody!

This is the time of year where everyone gets to dress in any costume or disguise they want, and go out with friends and family and celebrate. What are we celebrating for? Who knows, but it is fun, isn't it?

As I sit here in my Rex-Quan-Do costume writing this blog, I think to myself, why is tutoring scary? It seems pretty harmless on the surface....

As you become in expert in any field, you start to see all of the little details that you can not see at first glance. After really inspecting the tutoring & teaching profession, I notice all of the spoooooooky things....

1. Many claims are made from people who claim to be professional tutors, with limited experience, unproven results, and no track record of success.
2. Others claim to be professionals who have no teaching credentials
3. Some claim to be professionals when they have never been hired for paid tutoring!
4. Some tutors do the work for the student, so the lazy student likes the tutoring, but the parent paying for the services is none the wiser that her child is being completely robbed of his own education, and the parent is paying for it!

I could go on all day, but I would prefer to work on curriculum, so that we can provide the best tutoring services possible, nationwide. We will continue to grow, and I promise, we will have a professional tutor available near you, so that you don't have to be scammed by other companies making wild claims.

Get yourself into rhythm - bad habits are hard to break - so are good habits. Visit www.triedandtruetutoring.com for more information.

Now You Can Have High Grades

By now, many of our students are set with our fabulous tutors are doing very well in their Chemistry, Algebra 2, Statistics, Physics, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and other classes that we are assisting them with. Since they started off the year with our tutors, they have been given the structure, organization, and guidance needed to get themselves into a strong academic rhythm.

A good rhythm, or good work and study habits, is crucial to the long-term success of any student. It is true, any student can do well on one test - much like any athlete can have one great game - but it is the longevity that defines greatness.

Good habits and structure start at home. Are you waking up at a specific time every morning? Do you eat a similar type of breakfast, or are you skipping breakfast all together? Are you showering and getting dressed before school, or are you rushing out the door, combing your hair in the car? Are you paying attention in class, or are you drawing pictures, thinking about what you are going to be doing after school? A wandering mind is an unfocused mind.

Many parents claim that their child had "ADD" or "ADHD". I understand that it is a scientifically proven learning disability, where there are not enough neurons firing at a given time to maintain focus. Therefore, doctors prescribe medication that blocks the re-uptake of neurons, and therefore more neurons are available for the task at hand. However, I feel that many parents with unmedicated children use this idea of ADD as a scapegoat, or excuse, for their child's failure in school.

School is not easy. School is too important to be easy. If it were easy, everyone would succeed, and it would be meaningless. School is a proving grounds - survival of the fittest. Those who can focus, work hard, and strategize for the long-term will win.

Some students do not have the luxury of private tutoring. Some students have parents with no education at all, and they are left to fend for themselves at school. Some students live in abusive homes, where learning the quadratic formula and when to apply it is the last thing on their mind. Unfortunately, it is not an even playing field. It is not an even or fair world we are living in. However, it is crucial to utilize the resources you have, and make the best out of it.

Some of the resources that you may be able to access:

  • Free Tutoring on Campus - before school, during lunch and nutrition, after school
  • Free Public Libraries - somewhere you can go to study in a quiet area, with limited distraction
  • Friends - Some friends may be able to help you with material which is confusing, or take notes for you when you are absent from class. Use your friends to help you succeed. You can help them succeed as well - mutualistic relationship, this is what friendship is (there's your Biology term for the day)
  • Family - Maybe your family will help you study. Maybe your family will pay for private tutoring - maybe your family will drive you to school so you don't have to walk, or make you breakfast so you don't have to wake up early to do so.
  • Time - be smart with your time. Do not waste time doing frivolous activities - get balance in your life, do not waste time, and you will be successful.
Whatever resources you have at your disposal, use them to maximize your benefits. Maximizing the use of your resources will lead you to success now and in the future.

Having said all this, private tutoring is an amazing resource. If your parents are willing to pay for private tutoring to see you succeed, you need to jump at that opportunity. First of all, make sure it is a tutor from Tried & True Tutoring, otherwise you may not get the quality you deserve. After that, heed the advice of the tutor - they have done what you are currently doing and have succeeded. Any time an adult is willing to spend time with you and mentor you, it is a good idea to listen and absorb the information they give to you. Someone older and wiser than you can always be very beneficial  - and day dreaming, not listening, and canceling appointments are all a waste of valuable resources.

Get yourself into rhythm - bad habits are hard to break - so are good habits. Visit www.triedandtruetutoring.com for more information.
